Web Order Fulfillment Boosts Omnichannel Sales
Retailers who are single channel are missing opportunities. But retailers who are omnichannel might also be missing opportunities if their web order fulfillment strategies are inefficient. If an order is placed online and the order isn’t filled quickly and accurately, it leaves a bad impression and affects future online sales.
A recent Internet Retailer article by Matt Lindner looks at how Home Depot and Lowe’s reap the benefits of their omnichannel strategies. Both stores are in the site’s top 500 list for 2017. Both retailers encourage shoppers to pick up online orders in the store and allow online returns in-store. Both retailers also provide sales associates with mobile devices equipped to provide better services on the floor.
To quote from the article, “Shoppers have, in turn, responded to these online-to-in-store initiatives. More than 45% of the retailer’s online orders are picked up in one of its store locations, Home Depot CEO Craig Menear told analysts on Home Depot’s Q1 earnings call last week. Lowe’s, meanwhile, reported in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in April that about 60% of its online orders are picked up in store and 40% of those shoppers wind up buying something else when picking up their online order.”
These are impressive numbers that other retailers can also see in their own businesses if they have the right software.
