Manage Your Seasonal Footwear Specials
This is the time of year when footwear retail shop start receiving their spring stock and promoting their spring specials. Are you set up to do that properly?
As a footwear retailer, you need a way to manage your seasonal specials. Shoes and apparel are two retail categories where the merchandise is turned over quickly. Every season, you have a new set of merchandise. Depending on where your footwear retail shop is located, you could have an entire inventory of winter footwear with a completely different set of summer footwear.
For instance, you likely don’t stock flip flops in January. And you probably don’t stock snow boots in July. If you do, you don’t sell that many, and if you have them on your sales floor, they are taking up valuable merchandise space.
The way to manage your sales space and seasonal merchandise is to plan your specials to move product.
Whatever seasonal inventory you have on hand when such merchandise goes out of season can be put on sale to encourage customers to buy that merchandise when they don’t need it. They may not need sandals right now in January – especially in New York – but they will want them in August. If you have an abundance, sell seasonal products to make room for your winter merchandise.
